Biography
Tamara Behen, NP, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner specializing in orthopedics with IU Health. She has been practicing as a nurse practitioner since 2020 and brings decades of orthopedic experience to her role, having worked as an orthopedic nurse since 1996.
Tamara pursued advanced nursing because she wanted the opportunity to partner more closely with patients and their families throughout their healthcare journey. She is passionate about caring for patients of all ages and helping them achieve better outcomes through personalized, comprehensive care.
Patients often describe Tamara as friendly, approachable and compassionate. During an initial visit, she takes time to get to know each patient, understanding their concerns and discussing all available treatment options. She believes in ensuring patients leave their appointment with a clear understanding of their diagnosis, treatment plan and next steps.
One of the most rewarding aspects of Tamara’s work is helping patients recover from injuries and orthopedic conditions so they can return to the activities they enjoy. She also appreciates the supportive, family-oriented culture of her practice and strives to create a welcoming environment where patients feel comfortable and cared for.
Outside of work
Tamara enjoys spending time with her family and her two dogs. She loves staying active outdoors through hiking, bicycling, camping and other outdoors adventures.
