William A. Kunkle, DO

Dr. Wm "Aaron" Kunkle is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon dedicated to helping patients return to the activities and quality of life that matter most to them. He understands that spine pain can affect far more than the back or neck - it can interfere with work, sleep, family time, independence and the simple things patients enjoy daily.

Dr. Kunkle provides comprehensive care for conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. His approach begins with listening carefully, understanding each patient goals and exhausting appropriate non-surgical options when possible. These may include physical therapy, medications, image-guided injections and other individualized treatments. When surgery is necessary, he uses evidence-based techniques designed to relieve pain, protect healthy tissues and support a safe recovery.

He has expertise in minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, including uniportal and biportal techniques as well as motion preserving procedures such as cervical and lumbar disc replacement. He also performs decompression and fusion procedures when they are the best option for the patient's condition. Dr. Kunkle's goal is never to simply recommend an operation; it is to help each patient understand their diagnosis, weigh the options and move forward with confidence.

Dr Kunkle previously served as Chief and Chairman of Surgery at Dupont Hospital. He is actively involved in advancing the field of spine surgery through research, education and the development of new surgical instrumentation. He has presented research at national meetings, including the North American Spine Society and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. He has taught surgeons from around the country on advanced endoscopic spine techniques.
