Young Lu, MD

Dr. Young Lu, MD, is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive techniques, degenerative spine conditions and spinal deformity. He joined IU Health from private practice in North Carolina and previously served as faculty at the University of Miami.

Dr. Lu emphasizes a conservative, patient-first philosophy, working closely with pain management physicians and physiatrists to maximize nonsurgical options whenever possible. When surgery is needed, he brings advanced expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic-assisted techniques and intraoperative navigation allowing for safer procedures, less postoperative pain and faster recoveries.

He completed a highly competitive combined Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, an experience that uniquely equips him to approach complex spine disorders from both surgical disciplines.

Dr. Lu has been involved in local and international medical outreach since his college years at Cornell, a commitment he has carried through his residency, fellowship and clinical practice to support underserved communities through education, volunteerism and direct patient care.

He is also an active contributor to spine research, with more than 20 publications and book chapters, and has presented his work at national and international meetings across the world.

In addition to English, he speaks Mandarin Chinese. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
