Biography
Dr. Young Lu, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery. He cares for patients with degenerative spine conditions, spinal deformities and other complex spine disorders. Dr. Lu joined IU Health after practicing in North Carolina and previously served as faculty at the University of Miami.
What Dr. Lu Treats
Dr. Lu helps patients with a wide range of spine conditions, including:
- Degenerative disc disease
- Spinal stenosis
- Spinal deformity
- Neck and back pain
- Complex spine disorders
He has advanced training in minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic-assisted techniques and intraoperative navigation, which allow for more precise procedures and smaller incisions.
Care Philosophy
Dr. Lu believes in a conservative, patient-first approach to spine care. He takes time to listen carefully and works closely with pain management physicians and physiatrists to explore nonsurgical treatment options whenever possible. When surgery is needed, Dr. Lu focuses on using the least invasive techniques to help reduce pain, improve safety and support faster recovery.
Research and Outreach
Dr. Lu is actively involved in spine research and has authored more than 20 publications and book chapters. He has presented his work at national and international medical meetings. He is also committed to local and global medical outreach, supporting underserved communities through education, volunteer work and direct patient care.
Outside of Work
Dr. Lu speaks both English and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Lu looks forward to partnering with patients to help them move more comfortably and improve their quality of life.
