Becoming IU Health Fishers

As part of the Fishers Community Impact Project, project manager Adam Hormann discusses the process of changing the name of IU Health Saxony Hospital to IU Health Fishers.

IU Health Saxony Hospital is undergoing some big changes, and one is the name of the facility. It will soon change to IU Health Fishers, a step that will better reflect the patients who walk through the doors each day.

“We wanted to be more representative of the community we serve,” explains Adam Hormann, project manager at IU Health. “We aren’t just here for those who live in the Saxony area. We are here for the people of Fishers and surrounding communities.”

The name change is part of the Fishers Community Impact Project, a $300 million investment into one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. The name change is just one part of the project. The planned expansion adds stand-alone outpatient physician office developments in the community and is growing the square footage of the hospital campus by nearly 50 percent.

While changing the name of the facility may seem like a quick task, a lot of work goes into it.

“Right now, we have 12 separate departments working on changing the name to IU Health Fishers,” Hormann says. “It’s more complicated than people might think. Each department involved has their own part they are responsible for that goes into this, and that takes time.”

Key stakeholders from Legal, Risk, Regulatory, Marketing and Communications, Cerner/Information Services, Design & Construction, Revenue Cycle Services, System Patient Access, Managed Care, Facilities, Administration and more are actively engaged in this process to successfully operationalize the new name.

The official work to change the name to IU Health Fishers started on December 1, 2023. Hormann’s role as project manager is to keep track of the tasks each department is working on and make sure they get completed. These range from “behind the scenes” elements, such as the process to update patient systems and documentation, as well as following formal legal and regulatory processes involved in a name change. Then there are the more obvious and public changes, such as making sure patients are notified of new name and updating online elements, like the IU Health website, and signage inside and outside of the building.

A representative from each department involved meets once a month to provide updates and discuss any barriers.

“We have a really great team, and they are working hard,” Hormann says. “I think that speaks to the level of talent IU Health brings in.”

So, when will IU Health Saxony Hospital officially become IU Health Fishers? The project team expects to officially make the switch in June of 2025, making the change part of the annual Spark Fishers! Celebration. All elements of the hospital expansion are expected to be complete by the end of the year.
