Bloomington WIC team earns gold for breastfeeding efforts

The IU Health Community Health Women, Infants and Children (WIC) team in Bloomington is dedicated to helping pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children eat well and stay healthy.

Their efforts to promote and support breastfeeding efforts were recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service with the gold level Breastfeeding Award of Excellence.

Amy Meek, RN, Community Health – Clinical Operations director, says, "IU Health Community Health is home to some truly exceptional clinical teams. I’m very proud of our WIC breastfeeding team. Their passion shines through in everything they do—they go above and beyond every single day to ensure parents have the knowledge, support, and tools they need to be successful so every baby can thrive."

Jessica Martin, Community Health South Region Women, Infants and Children (WIC) manager, says, “This recognition celebrates our team’s outstanding commitment to breastfeeding support, education and advocacy that empowers families and promotes infant health. From peer counseling excellence to community outreach, IU Health Bloomington WIC continues to demonstrate what it means to lead with compassion, innovation and purpose.
