Expanding surgical quality for patients beyond the walls of IU Health

Molly Kilbane and Heather McDaniel are both registered nurses with IU Health, but their work is not at the bedside. "My kids will joke with me and say I'm not a real nurse because I'm not at the bedside delivering direct patient care, but what Heather and I do is so important for patients," said Kilbane, one of IU Health's quality reporting and analytics coordinators. She and Heather are part of a collaborative involving hospitals across Indiana and Illinois with the goal to improve surgical quality and safety standards throughout the region. "This partnership includes 29 hospitals in Indiana and nine in Illinois," said McDaniel. "We meet quarterly and review data across hospitals and experience shared learning with the goal of improving our surgical outcomes and keeping our patients safe."
