From classroom to care: a full-circle journey of healing
When Sarah Shore-Beck was airlifted from the scene of a serious car accident, her life changed in an instant. A university professor in exercise science and longtime fitness professional, Shore-Beck faced multiple surgeries and had to relearn how to walk.
At the IU Health Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation location in Noblesville, she found not only expert care but also a familiar face. Her physical therapist, Alyssa Emata, was once her student.
“While I was in school, Sarah was a pillar of support throughout my college career,” Emata says. “She meets people where they are, guiding them toward success in a way that feels personal and genuine. This shaped the way I care for my patients today.”
Emata joined her team about six months ago and specializes in dance medicine, with a strong background in orthopedics and athletic care. “I was drawn to IU Health because of their strong commitment to providing the highest standard of patient care while fostering a culture of learning and creativity,” she says. “What truly sets it apart is the interdisciplinary, team-based approach, connecting every provider in a patient’s care to ensure the best possible outcomes.”
For Shore-Beck, the experience has been deeply meaningful. “Seeing Alyssa transition from being my student to being a professional who is now actively helping me in my recovery is a full-circle moment,” she says. “It’s a reminder of why I chose teaching in the first place.”
Shore-Beck continues to share her recovery journey on social media, where she offers encouragement to others who may be starting over.
For those navigating their own healing journey, IU Health Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation offers the same compassionate, expert care that has helped Shore-Beck move forward.
