Genetic team helps newborn with CF avoid potential complications

Genetic team helps newborn with CF avoid potential complications

After Shelby Norris found out she was pregnant, she and her husband, Matt, underwent genetic testing which revealed that both were Cystic Fibrosis (CF) carriers. Under the care of genetic counselors at Riley Hospital for Children, Shelby and Matt opted for the Unity Screen, a non-invasive test that assessed their baby's risk. That's when they learned Piper did have CF, but all was not lost. In consult with their genetic team Shelby took a medication while pregnant to help Piper avoid complications at birth.
