Healthy Beginnings in Lawrence County

You may have heard the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child.” But who is there to help the mother before birth?

Jodee Rhorer, RN

Born and raised in Bedford, Jodee Rhorer, BSN, RNC, has deep connections to this community where she raised her children. And after over 30 years as an obstetric nurse, she has touched countless families through her care.

“I live in this community and love this community,” she says. And during her time as a nurse, Rhorer has noticed that many families don’t have the resources to access recommended prenatal healthcare.

“Maybe they didn’t have the gas or even a car to get to their prenatal care appointments,” she explains. “I’ve learned a lot over the years to help connect these patients with the community resources they need.”

And that knowledge ties wonderfully into Rhorer’s new role as the obstetric outreach program manager at IU Health Bedford.

This free program is called Healthy Beginnings and is focused on helping pregnant individuals in Lawrence County get the care they need to have a healthy pregnancy.

Services include helping navigate prenatal care and available resources. Rhorer is also here to help educate patients on pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum and newborn care.

Interested individuals can contact Rhorer at 812.276.4332.
