Home Infusion team empowers multiple sclerosis patients

As World MS Day approaches on May 30, the IU Health Home Infusion remains optimistic about a new treatment option for some patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). This year, Ocrevus Zunovo is being introduced as a new treatment for people with relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS) and primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS).

The life-changing treatment is given as a shot under the skin twice a year by a healthcare provider and takes only 10 minutes. This new option gives more choice and flexibility for both healthcare providers and patients.

One major benefit of Ocrevus Zunovo is that it can help more people get treatment. Some MS centers do not have the equipment needed for IV treatments. This can be hard for patients, especially those in rural areas. The medication can be given at home or in the doctor’s office, making it easier for patients to get their treatment.

According to Kristen Calhoun, RN, home infusion manager of clinical operations, MS patients often have poor IV access due to loss of muscle tone and subcutaneous tissue. The subcutaneous administration of Ocrevus Zunovo saves patients from discomfort and anxiety, improves patient satisfaction and decreases waste of supplies and nursing time.

Ocrevus Zunovo is designed to make MS care more accessible. It builds on the well-established safety and efficacy profile of Ocrevus IV and allows patients to receive treatment without the need for IV infrastructure, which can be a barrier for many.

This World MS Day, learn more about MS and other autoimmune disorders and celebrate the home infusion team for making a difference in patient care.
