DAISY Award nominations offer a glimpse into the amazing work nurses do every day.
“I am nominating my nurse because she went above and beyond in every possible way during my care. From the moment she entered the room, she brought a sense of calm, compassion, and professionalism that immediately made me feel safe and cared for. Her bedside manner was nothing short of amazing — she didn’t just treat my condition; she treated me as a person.”
That’s just part of one DAISY Award nominations submitted for Kasandra Dobbe, RN, with the Bedford Emergency department.
Another nominator wrote about how Dobbe was friendly and kind from the moment she introduced herself, ensuring the patient had resources, including a phone charger, and answering their questions before their transfer to Bloomington for higher acuity care.
Dobbe has been a nurse for three years after working as a medical assistant for nearly 13 years and has been with her Bedford Emergency team since April 2025.
“I thought Labor and Delivery was where I was meant to be, until I joined this amazing team,” she shares. “They opened my eyes to how much I love providing care to the entire general population, offering resources and education.”
While the unit can be chaotic, whole patient care is a passion for her, so she makes the effort to give them and their loved ones her entire attention.
“I remind myself that I have an amazing team of nurses and management behind me. Which means when I step in with my patient, I'm confident that I can allow myself to actively listen and care for them as if they are my only patient.”
Even the small things make a difference, which is why Dobbe tries to fill all patients’ needs that she’s capable of helping with. And if she has to step away to help elsewhere, she takes the time to reassure the patient of their importance.
Dobbe waited for years for her opportunity to become a nurse and thanks her IU Health team for helping her grow in ways she never thought possible.
“We have such amazing nurses,” she shares. “[That’s] what helps us provide such compassionate and purposeful, excellent care.”
