IU Health first in Indiana to offer new radiotracer for at-risk cardiac patients

IU Health is the first hospital system in Indiana to offer a new radioactive diagnostic drug to help assess heart function for patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease. "Our prior imaging allowed us just to look at perfusion of the heart, but with this new modality it allows us to look at actual rate of blood flow to the heart at rest and at stress," said Mark Estrada, MD, an IU Health nuclear medicine physician. "We'll be better able to determine a patient’s risk and decide if we should put them on medical management or interventional management where we need to go in and actually do a surgery or catheterization or an angioplasty."
