Nurse finds purpose and community at IU Health Saxony

Registered nurse Taylor Bowser thrives in IU Health Saxony’s Medical-Surgical unit, where strong teamwork and patient connections make a difference. Now the team is growing as the hospital expands.

Taylor Bowser, a registered nurse, was drawn to working on IU Health Saxony’s Medical-Surgical unit because of the team and her patients.

She started at the hospital right out of nursing school two years ago.

“I job shadowed here and I really liked the team dynamic,” she says.

On the Medical-Surgical unit, team members care for adult patients who are typically preparing for or recovering from a surgical procedure. For Bowser, having time to connect with her patients is important.

“You really get to know them and their care preferences,” she explains.

For her, the days tend to be fast paced. She handles medications, patient assessments, communicating with physicians and other clinical team members, checks on her patients and answers any questions family members may have.

IU Health Saxony is currently in the process of growing. The Fishers Community Impact Project is a significant investment into Fishers and the surrounding communities. It includes an expansion of the IU Health Saxony Hospital campus and services, and the addition of offsite, outpatient access to primary care and specialists.

“It feels really exciting,” Bowser says. “I’m excited for the hospital to grow.”

The project is expected to double the hospital’s workforce, which means more nurses. As someone who helps orient new nurses, Bowser is looking forward to helping her future team members get settled.

“We don’t just throw you in. There’s a lot of support that’s given,” she says. “The great thing about Saxony is you work with the same people over and over, so you build relationships. It really is like a family.”
