Patient finds symptom relief through Wilson's disease research trial
Emily Murphy has been battling a genetic disorder called Wilson’s disease for several years. The disease creates a buildup of copper in the body which can cause liver damage and debilitating neurological function. After suffering through these symptoms for years, Emily recently became the first person in the country to enroll in a research trial that could very well provide her with a cure. “I was basically non-functional,” said Emily. “I had tremors, slurred speech, balance issues, but now I’m completely off standard [Wilson’s disease] medications. Today I have a full-time job… I have a four-year-old son, so it’s non-stop, busy, busy and I wouldn’t ever go back to where I was before.”
