Providing a foundation for safe, effective care

Laura Lashbrook didn’t always think she’d work in healthcare. In fact, she was a traveling musician when her eldest sister, who worked in the medical field, encouraged her to apply for a job.

She now serves as the regional manager of Supply Chain Operations and has been part of the IU Health Bloomington supply chain team for 34 years. She was also recently recognized with the Partner in Care award for her efforts to support the care provided in Bloomington.

“My work is to understand and communicate the needs of the nursing teams and supply chain teams to provide the supplies and services needed at Bloomington,” shares Laura. “I strive for excellence to provide efficient and safe delivery of the right products, in the right quantities, at the right time.”

During the award presentation, it was said that Laura is “consistently reliable and responsive, ensuring that patient care teams have the medical supplies and resources they need, often before anyone even realizes there is a need. Her work provides a strong foundation for safe, effective patient care.”

This was shown when Laura successfully managed the legacy hospital’s supply organization while also planning for the current facility, which had different layouts and workflows.

“Her preparation, coordination with leaders and attention to detail instilled confidence and reassurance during a major organizational transition.”

More recently, Laura played a key role in preparing for a defibrillator exchange, proactively engaging multiple stakeholders to ensure the right supplies were available at the right time.

Along with her planning and logistics skills, she is a calm, kind and solution- focused presence. She creates stability in times of uncertainty and is known for her willingness to help, her depth of knowledge and her ability to connect people to solutions quickly.

Her dedication, responsiveness and genuine compassion shine every day in how she prioritizes the needs of patients and those who care for them.
