Level II NICU nurse commits three decades to families

Maternity nurse Ari Duszynski joined IU Health Fishers ahead of the opening of its new Maternity unit, drawn by the opportunity to care for mothers and babies closer to home. She values the team’s supportive, collaborative culture and shared commitment to providing safe, high-quality care for families.

While Ari Duszynski is relatively new to her role at IU Health Fishers, she brings 30 years of experience to her team. A registered nurse for the hospital’s Level II NICU, Duszynski previously worked at Riley Hospital for Children and has spent her career caring for families and their newest additions.

When she learned IU Health Fishers would open a Maternity unit, she welcomed the opportunity to continue her work closer to home. “When they first built IU Health Fishers, I was working at Riley at the time. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I wish they delivered babies,’” Duszynski explains.

As part of the Fishers Community Impact Project, IU Health Fishers opened a Maternity unit in October of last year. Duszynski officially joined the hospital one month prior to the opening to be part of the new team.

“I love that this team was handpicked and cultivated, and everyone here wants to be here. Everyone here loves their job,” she says.

Throughout her career, Duszynski has remained committed to supporting mothers, babies and families at every stage of care.

“Everything I've done has been taking care of babies and their families. When I was doing prenatal care for about seven years, I was working with mothers when they were pregnant, but I didn't see the babies, and I really missed them,” she explains. “That was one reason I came back to bedside care. I missed hands-on care with babies, and helping moms and babies form their bonds.”

At IU Health Fishers, she is proud to be part of a team dedicated to providing safe, high-quality care in a collaborative environment.

“It’s a very supportive team here. With Labor and Delivery, you can't always predict how many patients you're going to have,” she says. “The team really comes together and helps, making sure we're providing the best and the safest care for our families."
