Decades of dedication
IU Health Tipton Hospital
Lindsay Timm, RN, is part of the Perioperative Services team at IU Health Tipton Hospital. Although she has had multiple roles at Tipton over the past 19 years, her commitment to her patients and her ability to adapt to changing circumstances have been hallmarks of her nursing career, regardless of the role she was in.
Timm’s career began at IU Health Tipton (then, Tipton County Memorial Hospital, before it joined the IU Health system) in 2006, fresh out of nursing school. She spent 15 years on the inpatient floor working nights, before transitioning to days to balance her growing family.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Timm made a shift to the perioperative side of nursing, where she now prepares patients for surgery and cares for them post-operatively. This transition allowed her to achieve a better work-life balance, and she says that’s an aspect she wants all current or aspiring nurses to know, whether they’re looking for a different work schedule or a different way to care for patients.
"You can do so many things with nursing,” she says. “So, if you don't like being on the inpatient floor and taking care of patients longer term, you can do home health, you can do case management. There are so many different opportunities for this degree that there's something for everyone."
She also spends some time helping out in the hospital’s Emergency Department and inpatient unit and at IU Health Frankfort Hospital when needed.
Inspired by family, driven by passion
Like many nurses, Timm’s passion for nursing is deeply rooted in her family. Her mother, an OB nurse, inspired her. Growing up in Tipton, Lindsay had the opportunity to witness her mother's dedication firsthand, which influenced her decision to pursue a career in nursing while in high school. She also met her future husband, a nurse practitioner, while they were in high school, and together they have built a life centered around their shared commitment to nursing.
Throughout her career, Lindsay has seen many changes in nursing, from shorter inpatient stays to evolving policies and procedures. Despite these changes, her favorite part of being a nurse remains the same: seeing patients get better and taking care of people she knows from her community. Her deep connection to her patients and her ability to make a positive impact on their lives is what makes her career so fulfilling.
“I love Tipton Hospital,” she says. “There's a lot of us that have worked here for many, many years, and I appreciate everyone I work with.”
