Biography
Cody B. Bellard, MD, is a double board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine.
Dr. Bellard was born and raised in south Louisiana. Growing up, the outdoors was a big part of his life living in a rural area. He spent a lot of time camping and hiking as a member of the Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. His junior year of high school he spent a year abroad in France, learning French fluently. He played baseball and soccer in high school, eventually playing college soccer. He also played a year of semiprofessional soccer in Spain after college. He tore his ACL playing soccer in college, which influenced his decision to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Education
Dr. Bellard received a double major in biology and chemistry from The University of Louisiana-Monroe and a diploma in Hispanic studies from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He also obtained a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
His post-graduate education and training included an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute, where he served as assistant physician for the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans.
What Dr. Bellard Treats
Dr. Bellard treats a wide variety of orthopedic pathology. His primary interests are sports medicine and arthroscopy.
He comprehensively treats:
- Rotator cuff tears
- Shoulder instability and arthritis
- Ligament reconstruction and tendon repair around the elbow
- Ligament and tendon tears of the knee
- Meniscus tears
- Isolated cartilage lesions
- Common fractures
Dr. Bellard specializes in care for patients with:
- Femoroacetabular impingement
- Hip labral tears
Outside of Work
When not caring for patients, Dr. Bellard enjoys staying active. He plays recreational soccer and likes lifting weights and going cycling
