Biography
Dr. Johnathon P. Shaffer, MD, is a Fort Wayne, IN native, sports neurologist and interventional pain specialist. A physician-executive with an MBA from the IU Kelley School of Business, his current positions include Division Director of Neurosciences for the IU Health South Region and Chair of the American Academy of Neurology's Sports Section. He currently serves as a sideline Team Physician for IU Football and consultant for IU Athletics.
Dr. Shaffer completed a fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles; team physicians for the Rams, Dodgers, Clippers, Ducks, Angels, Team USA and others--There he cultivated a new medical officer position with the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational hosted by Tiger Woods, which he served in from 2020-2022.
Dr. Shaffer has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and has been presented several awards for both research and clinical care, including the Mohammad R. Torabi Outstanding Early Career Distinguished Alumni Award from the IU School of Public Health. He has been invited to speak both locally and nationally on concussion and other sports neurology topics. He enjoys golf, IU Athletics and spending time at the lake with his wife, daughters and golden retriever.
