Biography
Dr. Matthew D. Orton, MD, is a compassionate radiation oncologist with a personal connection to his field. His journey into oncology began when his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, motivating him to join a prostate brachytherapy study in medical school. Through this experience, he discovered the rewarding nature of working with cancer patients and improving their quality of life.
Orton earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University. He strives to develop personal relationships with his patients, presenting treatment options, guiding them through different processes and working alongside families to create a support system.
His expertise spans a broad range of conditions, including breast cancer, central nervous system cancer, gynecologic cancer, head and neck cancer, keloids, lung cancer, lymphoma, prostate cancer, sarcoma and skin cancer. His contributions to the field were recognized with the National Roentgen Ray Society resident research award in 2012.
In his personal life, Orton enjoys scuba diving, running and coaching his children’s t-ball and soccer teams
