Biography

Dr. Maatman's clinical focus is in General Surgery and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and includes benign and malignant conditions of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, stomach, and small intestine. This includes primary and secondary cancers of the liver, pancreas cancer, pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, bile duct cancer, complex biliary pathology, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors and cancer of the small intestine.

He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery. Maatman received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery Residency and Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Maatman’s research focus is on acute and chronic pancreatitis. He has co-authored more than 45 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Pancreas Club, Midwest Surgical Association and Association for Academic Surgery. He is a reviewer for Surgery, Surgery Open Science, and Surgical Endoscopy. He serves as the Associate Social Media Editor for Surgery Open Science.
