Living Kidney Donation
A surgical procedure that removes one of a donor’s two healthy kidneys and transplants it into a recipient whose kidneys do not function properly.
Three years after Michael Kaltenmark got a kidney transplant at University Hospital, he returned with his family and their famous dog, the now retired college mascot, Butler Blue III to thank the transplant team. “I can’t thank this team enough for what they did for me, my brother who was my donor, and our family. I tell people I don’t take my kidney transplant for granted, but it’s also not something I think about every day because I feel so good. I feel normal. I’m forever grateful for all these people have done for me.”
