Financial counselor spreads sunshine in Bedford and Paoli

Eileen Gilbert learned the value of hard work, precision and creating something that truly serves people’s needs over her 21-year career in the furniture manufacturing industry.

Now she’s taking a more direct role in making an impact on others as a financial counselor at Bedford and Paoli.

“My background taught me patience, attention to detail, being organized and a commitment to quality—but healthcare gives me the opportunity to apply those strengths in a way that touches people personally,” shares this Sunshine Award winner who’s been with IU Health for almost 13 years. “Transitioning into this field wasn’t just a career change; it was a chance to do work that aligns with my values and allows me to make a meaningful difference every day.”

RCS manager Misty McDonald wrote in her award nomination about how Eileen is a beacon of compassion and kindness, who elevates her role through genuine human connection.

When asked what IU Health value resonates the most with her, Eileen explains how they all impact her in different ways and mirror how she strives to show up in both her work and everyday life. Compassion guides her interactions with others; she’s drawn to environments where teamwork is more than a concept, purpose motivates her, and excellence ties it all together.

Eileen continues, “I genuinely love the work I do, and I feel deeply satisfied knowing that I give 100% every day to make a positive difference in other people’s lives. Being able to support others, bring comfort, and contribute to their well‑being is what motivates me. It’s meaningful to know that my effort matters, and that the care I give can make someone’s day a little easier or their experience a little brighter.”
