For general surgeon, 1,000 robotic cases equals 1,000 patients helped
IU Health Methodist Hospital
Dr. Steven Mong recently hit a major milestone in his practice- 1,000 robotic surgeries performed at Methodist Hospital. "These are four or five hour cases, too which means a lot of hours in the console," said Dr. Mong, who mostly uses the surgical robot to repair hernias. "I have a specific technique where I do what's called robotic abdominal wall reconstruction. To me that 1,000 number comes down to 1,000 patients that we may have helped. That's 1,000 people who were limited by the pain of a hernia who went back to work so it feels special that way."
