Healthy Community Alliance brings care into the heart of the community

The Healthy Community Alliance (HCA) believes the best way to improve health is to meet people where they are. This summer, that meant packing up resources, rolling up sleeves, and joining two local events with a shared goal of helping neighbors connect to care.

On July 10, the HCA Jay workgroup partnered with the Jay County Public Library’s Community Hero Celebration. Families filled the library lawn, visiting with first responders, superheroes and community groups. HCA partners, including IU Health and the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition, were there to answer questions, share information and connect residents with local resources.

The next day, July 11, HCA partners in Muncie joined Urban Light Community Church for a neighborhood health outreach. It’s the fourth year for this collaboration, and this year more than 100 residents took part. Services included blood pressure checks, A1c testing, insurance navigation, hands-only CPR training, safe sleep demonstrations, and sign-ups for free mammograms and lung cancer screenings.

For HCA partners, the value of these events goes beyond the services offered. It’s about listening to their needs and helping them take the next step toward better health.
