Transplant
If facing end-stage organ failure, a kidney, pancreas, liver, lung, intestine or heart transplant will help you embrace life again.
Sara Mitchell is a physical therapist who oversees the pre heart transplant support group at Methodist Hospital. Heart transplant patients often wait weeks or even months in the hospital before they get that life-changing surgery. Once a week those patients meet with a multidisciplinary team with the goal of learning from and supporting each other. "A lot of these patients who come back to group say the heart transplant medically saved their lives, but they feel like the support they got from the group saved their soul."
