Hyperbaric oxygen therapy a success in treating patient's diseased bladder

In 2022 doctors diagnosed Josilynn Gauer with leukemia. Among the many challenges that followed was a viral infection to her bladder. "It was like a UTI times ten," said Josilynn, who spent four months at Riley Hospital for Children. Her doctors tried several treatment options to address her excessive bleeding and blood clots. "When we manage hemorrhagic cystitis, which is what Josilynn had, we go through a checklist of therapies... starting with the least invasive," said Dr. Kondrad Szymanski, Josilynn's pediatric urologist. "We did that over the course of several weeks and eventually we ended up at a crossroads... where hyperbaric oxygen was the next step."
