IU Health Morgan expands breast cancer screening with fast MRI technology
IU Health Morgan
Breast cancer screening is one of the most powerful tools in the fight against cancer, offering the chance to detect disease early and improve long-term outcomes.
While mammograms continue to be the gold standard for screening, Morgan is now also offering abbreviated (fast) breast MRIs to eligible patients.

“This is a great addition to our communities,” says Tina Anderson, Imaging Service Manager. “It's always great to be able to detect something at an earlier stage, because then the prognosis is typically better.”
Fast breast MRIs are designed for individuals at higher risk for breast cancer or with dense breast tissue. These scans are a great supplemental screening tool with a higher ability to find cancers not detected as easily on a mammogram.
MRIs excel at discovering cancers at the lowest stage, making them a great tool for early detection. Unlike standard MRI’s, fast breast MRIs only take 10 – 20 minutes, making them a more accessible and efficient screening option.
Morgan Cancer Center’s comprehensive cancer services make breast cancer care as streamlined and comfortable as possible.
“I think [this investment] shows our patients how much we care about women's health,” says Anderson, who hopes to expand this service across the other South Region facilities.
Patients are eligible for a fast breast MRI at Morgan if they’ve had a mammogram within the last 12 months classifying them as a dense breast patient or if they are at high-risk for developing breast cancer.
Ask your healthcare provider about adding a fast breast MRI to your yearly breast cancer screening plan.
