Local grant supplies over 100 new parents with car seats and Pack 'N Plays

The second annual Orange County Community Baby Shower brought together expecting mothers and new parents to learn about maternal and child safety. A $2,000 grant from Orange County Community Foundation supplied free car seats, Pack ’N Plays and other portable cribs for those in attendance.

Indiana has the third highest infant mortality rate among the 50 states. With Orange County’s low access to maternity care services and increase in pregnant mothers, this baby shower aims to reduce the infant and maternal morbidity and mortality rates in rural Indiana.

IU Health nurses hosted walk-in classes covering breastfeeding, labor and delivery, safe sleep and postpartum care.
