Oh, the places we go: IU Health delivers home care products to every county in Indiana

Mexico, Santa Claus and Popcorn – you might not have heard of these locations in Indiana, but IU Health has. Thanks to the work of our home products teams in System Health Solutions, our system delivers home care products to patients in all 92 counties across the state.

“Home products is helping turn IU Health’s vision of making Indiana one of the nation’s healthiest states into reality,” says Erika Lempa, home products executive director. “Our proven ability to serve every county in the state means every Hoosier has access to high-quality, compassionate care from the comfort of their home.”

In each of the last three years, our home products teams delivered a medically-necessary product to at least one patient in every single Indiana county. These team members, i.e. customer service representatives taking patient calls, nurses visiting patient homes, warehouse staff mailing packages and more, are dedicated to getting patients the right care they need without having to leave home.

“With home products, the hope is that a patient’s provider(s) and supporting team(s) do all the background work and provide the patient’s services right to their home,” says Kalani Mehboob, MD, pulmonary physician and champion for the non-invasive ventilation (NIV) home product. “Home products help prevent or reduce obstacles patients might face in receiving life-saving and impactful care.”

The breadth of what home products can offer patients is vast. Patients can receive:

• Pharmacy infusions at home for chronic conditions or recovery after hospitalization, covering specialties such as neurology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, rheumatology, dermatology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, and infectious disease.
• Nutrition support from enteral nutrition including, but not limited to, pediatrics, gastroenterology and oncology.
• Home sleep apnea care through primary care, cardiology and sleep medicine.
• Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) to support health needs related to neurology and pulmonology.
• Diabetes care through continuous glucose monitors (CGM).
