Prayer shawls comfort patients at IU Health West
IU Health West Hospital
IU Health West team members are working to provide a bit of extra comfort to patients who are having a difficult time or receive bad news. The hospital chaplains hand out prayer shawls to those who they believe need wrapped in love. The shawls are knitted or crocheted by generous people who then donate them to the hospital to be handed out.
The shawls are accompanied by a prayer card that is intentionally meant to lift up the recipient, no matter their religion or faith tradition.
Genina Miller, a nursing professional development specialist at the hospital, oversees the program.
“The Prayer Shawl Program is a way for us to give a tangible gift to our patients,” she says. “I think of them as a gift of love that can provide a bit of extra comfort.”
If you would like to donate knitted or crocheted items, email Genina Miller at gmiller1@iuhealth.org.
