IU Health West Medical-Surgical nurse supports patients through teamwork

Medical-Surgical nurse Brad Templeman values the opportunity to help patients recover while building meaningful connections along the way. He credits the unit’s strong teamwork and supportive culture for helping nurses deliver exceptional care every day.

At IU Health, strong teamwork is essential to delivering safe, high-quality care for patients. For Brad Templeman, a registered nurse on the Medical-Surgical unit at IU Health West Hospital, having a supportive team makes all the difference.

Templeman has worked on the unit for two years, where his responsibilities vary each day. From assessing vital signs and administering medications to coordinating care between patients and physicians, his role requires both clinical expertise and collaboration.

“Teamwork is really strong here. We always have a nurse buddy, so if we need anything, we can rely on each other,” he explains.

That sense of connection extends beyond colleagues to the relationships he builds with his patients. Templeman values the opportunity to understand each patient’s unique story and support them through their recovery.

“The best part of patient care is learning about each patient, their journey, what brought them in and seeing how we can take care of them, so they can get better and get discharged,” he says. “It's always good to see people's progression and them getting better.”
