Specialty heart/kidney clinic cares for patient on the road

IU Health's nephrocardiology clinic is one of only a few specialty clinics in the country with a multidisciplinary team that cares for patients with simultaneous heart and kidney issues. Rick Scripter found the clinic after having a massive heart attack last year. "I owe my life to Methodist Hospital, man," said Rick who spends his days on the road, traveling around the country with is wife while the couple lives out of their RV.

"I feel like this clinic has been awesome for him," said Dr. Morgan Marcuccilli, a nephrologist and founder of IU Health's nephrocardiology clinic. "He checks in every few months and we're able to change his medications if needed to make sure his kidney function is staying stable, that his volume status is stable, and we talk a lot about diet, especially since he's always eating on the road."
