With a focus on patients and team, Shelly Hunt found her home at IU Health West

Shelly Hunt began as a speech language pathologist at IU Health West Hospital before taking on a supervisor role for Outpatient Rehabilitation to better serve her team and patients.

As the supervisor for IU Health West Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation services, Shelly Hunt’s day is never the same day twice. Hunt has worked at IU Health for over 12 years, originally starting out as a speech language pathologist. She became a supervisor for the team two years ago and finished an Indiana Hospital Association management course in December of this past year.

Hunt loved the information and techniques the courses taught her and says that everyone benefits from the information learned.

“I wish all managers and supervisors could go to this course,” she says. “It helped me recognize what my management style is, where my strengths and weaknesses are, so that I know how to handle situations and help staff to be able to provide better care.”

Hunt loves her team’s dedication to patient care and how easily everyone works together to tackle every situation. Her team often goes the extra mile to provide exercises and resources for patients and collaborate to work on different therapeutic approaches.

“We're a very collaborative team that is really close and works well with each other,” she says.

Giving back to her team is just as important to Hunt. Hot chocolate bars, cereal bars and a homemade breakfast are just some of the monthly events that she plans for the Rehabilitation team.

When not at work, Hunt can be found at her home in Brownsburg, baking, scrapbooking and cooking. She is also about to be a first-time grandmother.

One thing Hunt wants people to know about her team is how committed they are to patient recovery.

“We are dedicated to patient care and getting people from that post-op appointment through their recovery,” she says.
