New IU Health Bloomington

Now open to serve Hoosiers close to home in south central Indiana

IU Health Bloomington on the new Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center serves Hoosiers close to home in southern Indiana.

The $557 million facility is designed to improve healthcare in the region and help make Indiana one of the healthiest states in the nation.

Using an acuity-adaptable model of care, IU Health Bloomington minimizes unnecessary patient transportation between units by having providers come to the patient’s room rather than moving patients throughout the hospital for care. This model is shown to use resources more efficiently, decrease average lengths of stay, and increase patient safety.

The new facility offers:

  • Private inpatient rooms
  • Outpatient services such as office visits with highly-skilled specialty care physicians and leading-edge diagnostic testing
  • An emergency department designed to provide timely, specialized care for time-sensitive, life-threatening conditions
  • Same-day surgeries or outpatient surgeries not requiring an overnight stay to get you home and healing as quickly as possible
  • A personalized approach to inpatient services including intensive care services, complex surgeries, and labor and delivery
  • Comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology services, a neonatal intensive care nursery, and other perinatal services
  • A dedicated trauma center to treat severe injuries when time is of the essence
  • Cancer perfusion center with a view of the tranquility garden
  • Educational opportunities for university students studying various health science disciplines with a shared simulation center
