Sports Medicine Outreach
Our highly skilled athletic trainers provide access to leading edge sports medicine physicians, cardiologists and emergency care
Whether a high school athlete has a minor injury or sustains a major medical emergency, he or she needs access to the highest level of care as quickly as possible.
Athletic trainers are highly skilled health care professionals that collaborate with physicians in prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of all kinds of medical conditions.
This collaboration between athletic trainers and physicians provides young athletes a full range of services, including:
- Preventive services
- Clinical examination and diagnosis
- Emergency care
- Therapeutic intervention
- Rehabilitation of injuries and other medical conditions
On-site athletic trainers work with coaches, along with school administrators and staff to ensure the safety of student athletes. They are trained to treat many emergency illnesses and injuries, such as:
- Concussions
- Heat stroke
- Asthma attacks
- Sickle cell crises
- Diabetic emergencies
- Spine injuries
- Sudden cardiac arrest
Athletic trainers perform emergency medical management and initial assessment of injury or medical conditions. They also help establish a plan of care that may include getting the injured athlete to see an appropriate physician, providing treatment plans and guiding the athlete through injury rehabilitation.
