Biography

Dr. Erin Weber joined Indiana University in 2020 and is an Assistant Professor in Plastic Surgery, specializing in hand surgery. Her clinical interests include hand and upper extremity reconstruction and nerve injury, including brachial plexus. She primarily practices at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Weber grew up in a small town in western Maryland. She attended Rice University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2000 with a degree in Biochemistry. She then completed a combined MD/PhD program at the University of Southern California, graduating in 2009. Her graduate thesis focused on altering the molecular design of viral vectors to reduce the risk of cancer as a side effect of gene therapy treatment. Weber then completed an internship year in general surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, followed by residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at USC. She paused her residency for three years to complete a postdoctoral research fellowship, investigating human hair follicle development and ways to enhance hair regeneration for the treatment of hair loss. Finally, she completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 before joining the IU family.

As a surgeon-scientist, she is continuing her research endeavors at Indiana University. Her interests include hair follicle regeneration and nerve regeneration.

When not caring for her patients or researching new treatments, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and dog. They enjoy hiking, biking, and skiing.
