Biography
Dr. Joan Crawford, DO, FACC, FASE, FASNC, has been in practice since 1995 and specializes in cardiovascular diseases, as well as all noninvasive readings.
Dr. Crawford graduated from medical school at Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Florida. She went on to do an internship at Flint Osteopathic Hospital and her residency and cardiology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
She knew she wanted to be a doctor by the age of fifteen. That summer, she left her usual high school job at her father’s small grocery store for a scholarship—sponsored by The American Heart Association—that allowed her to round at a local hospital. She still volunteers with the organization today.
Her clinical interests include:
- Preventative medicine
- Advanced heart failure
- Adult congenital heart disease
- Coronary artery disease
- Arrhythmias, palpitations and atrial fibrillation
- Treatment for women and women in pregnancy
- Peripheral and vascular disease, including aneurysm
Dr. Crawford’s goal is to empower women to be healthier so that they can better take care of themselves and their families. She believes in treating all patients as if they were her own family, providing a holistic, compassionate and individualized approach to their cardiovascular care.
Previously, she was the medical director of a noninvasive lab and has experience running a nuclear cardiology department. She was also the noninvasive medical director and core faculty for a cardiology fellowship department, an assistant clinical professor at Michigan State University and a clinical adjunct professor at Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Crawford hopes to travel the United States and the world on her motorcycle, striving to see new cultures and communities with her husband. She also finds inner peace growing and trimming her flowers. She loves working out, being active with hiking, swimming and sailing.
