Biography

Dr. Strobel grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana. He attended Indiana University for his undergraduate degree (1987) and medical school (1991). He then trained at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiac electrophysiology. After a year on faculty at UAB, he moved to Bloomington in 2000 to start the Cardiac Electrophysiology Program.

In addition to overseeing the growth of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Program, Dr. Strobel has been an active participant in medical education, research and community service. He is an adjunct clinical professor of medicine for the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Strobel is actively involved in the medical education of medical students, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and others. One of his proudest achievements is his participation in the education of his now partner, Dr. Kyle Hornsby, who followed his career path into cardiac electrophysiology. He has participated in multiple clinical trials and has multiple research publications to his name. He has been active in the American College of Cardiology and served as governor of the Indiana Chapter of the ACC from 2010-2013. In 2015 he was appointed to the Indiana Medical Licensing Board and was appointed president in 2018.

His clinical practice incorporates a wide variety of treatments for cardiac arrhythmias including catheter ablation for treatment of atrial fibrillation, conduction system pacing for treatment of bradycardia and/or heart failure and leadless pacemaker implantation. 

In his free time, Dr. Strobel enjoys traveling, running, IU sports and English Premier League football.
