Concussion expert draws on own TBI experience to connect with patients

Carmen Frede is a nurse practitioner who specializes in helping patients with concussions. Her own experience with traumatic brain injury (TBI) has helped her better empathize with those seeking help. “I had a hard time getting the right treatment for my TBI. That’s why I want to make sure there’s an awareness. We want to make sure there are tools out there. I want to show people there’s light at the end of the tunnel. I want to be somebody who helps patients look down that dark tunnel and says, look, I have the light and we’re going to walk there together.”
