Dr. Bryan Wohlfeld is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in complex and degenerative spine conditions.

What Wohlfeld Treats

  • Spinal stenosis
  • Spondylolisthesis (the forward movement of a vertebra in relation to the bone below it)
  • Cervical and lumbar radiculopathy (pinched nerves)

Wohlfeld uses less-invasive techniques to help patients recover more quickly. Whether patients see him after initial diagnosis or for revision surgery, he aims to find the most effective treatment approach individualized to the patient. Wohlfeld’s experience treating complex revision patients has driven his interest in offering and using motion preserving options rather than a fusion. These include procedures such as:

  • Minimally invasive spine surgery
  • TOPS lumbar joint replacement
  • Cervical and lumbar disc replacement
  • Cervical, thoracic and lumbar discectomies and decompression procedures
  • Anterior lumbar fusion
  • Extreme lateral interbody fusion (XLIF)
  • Lumbar fusion options without screws and rods
  • Microinvasive endoscopic spine surgery
  • Peripheral nerve surgery (carpal tunnel, ulnar and peroneal nerve releases)

Wohlfeld earned his medical degree with honors from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship and a neurological surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern medical center in Dallas. There, as a faculty member, he specialized in minimally invasive spine and complex spine surgery and served as section chief for neurological surgery at the North Texas VA Medical Center and was promoted to associate professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center before choosing to return to Indiana to be closer to his roots.
