Patient care intern program prepares nursing students for 'real world'
IU Health Methodist Hospital
Olivia Moistner is a nursing student and a patient care intern (PCI) at Methodist Hospital. The PCI program is designed to give team members who are also nursing students a real-world setting to learn in as they hone the skills needed to become a nurse. "You can shadow people in the hospital like doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, chaplains, and that's not something that other people get the opportunity to do," said Olivia. "PCIs can also spend more time learning from nurses. It all gives you a realistic look at what being a nurse is all about."
