The IU Health Family Vitality Initiative is a free program that is focused on helping pregnant individuals have healthy babies.

Indiana has the highest rate of infant deaths in the Midwest. Over 3,000 infants have lost their lives before their first birthday in the past two years.

We can help reduce that risk for your baby by helping you navigate to needed care during pregnancy and once the baby is born.

About Family Vitality Initiative

The IU Health Family Vitality Initiative is a free program that is focused on helping pregnant individuals have healthy babies.

Receiving help early in your pregnancy provides a better opportunity for you and others in your home get the treatment you need and begin a path toward a healthier life for you and your baby.

Who Can Benefit from Our Program?

If you are expecting a baby and experiencing issues with substance use, you can benefit from our program. Our goal is to link expectant parents to services. We will assist others living in the home who may be experiencing substance issues. And, we will assist pregnant individuals who have not yet been connected to prenatal care begin that journey to help the baby with a healthier start to life.

How Much Does the Program Cost?

There is no cost for families enrolled with Family Vitality Initiative.

We provide navigation services to clients free of charge to help connect them to needed medical treatment during pregnancy, substance treatment, medical treatment for the baby after its birth and any social services assistance they may need to promote the health of their baby and family.

What Services are Available through Family Vitality Initiative?

Moms Heal Together: A free therapy group that assists pregnant or postpartum individuals with children under two years of age who are experiencing substance use. The group focuses on developing substance use recovery skills while monitoring the pregnant individual’s baby’s health during pregnancy.

Individual Therapy: In some limited circumstances, individual therapy may be the best option for the pregnant individual.

  • Hope Resource Center, 717 Lincoln Ave., Suite G, Bedford

Having Your First Baby and Under 28 Weeks Pregnant?

If so, you may qualify for the IU Health Nurse-Family Partnership program. In this free program, you can have a personal nurse alongside you during pregnancy and up to your child’s second year of life.

Struggling or Unsure How to Apply for Medicaid Services or for Food Stamps?

We have a free community partner to assist with that. We want to help you navigate issues that could improve your ability to promote a healthy environment for your child.
