Biography

Matthew Weirath, DO, is a board-certified family and sports medicine physician.

Dr. Weirath Treats

He cares for patients of all ages—from competitive athletes to active adults who simply want to return to work, recreation and everyday life without pain.

Dr. Weirath believes that every patient deserves an individualized treatment plan based on the best available evidence. Whenever possible, he emphasizes non-operative treatment options while partnering closely with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers and other specialists to provide comprehensive care.

Education

Dr. Weirath earned his undergraduate degree from Marquette University before receiving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and a primary care sports medicine fellowship through Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech.

Before joining Indiana University Health, Dr. Weirath served 12 years on active duty in the United States Air Force, where he cared for service members and their families. He spent five years at the United States Air Force Academy, caring for Division I athletes and cadets. His military experience strengthened his commitment to teamwork, performance optimization and helping patients recover safely and efficiently.

Dr. Weirath continues to provide medical coverage for athletes by working with Indiana University Athletics, USA Wrestling and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, providing care for national and international wrestling events.

Outside of Work

Dr. Weirath enjoys spending time outdoors hiking with his dogs, cooking and staying active through regular exercise.
