Dr. Jeff Bird often recalls that he received his first paycheck from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in 1984 as he began his family residency at the Muncie campus. He has been an active member of the medical community in Muncie ever since. He began as a private practice family physician, then moved on to director of the Family Medicine Residency Center, vice president of Operations to chief medical officer and finally chief operating office to president of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Bird attended DePauw University and received his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Sue, their four children and three grandchildren. He is a Chicago Bears fan that loves to spend time outdoors with his family.
Lori Luther has held several leadership positions with IU Health Arnett, IU Health Physicians and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Prior to joining IU Health, Luther worked more than 20 years for consulting firms in the US and around the world. She grew up in east central Indiana and her children were born at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Luther is a graduate of Ball State University and lives in the Muncie area with her husband Terry. She is very active in several community organizations and is thrilled to live in a community that is passionate about improving their city and the lives of those that live here. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and utilizing the many resources available in the community such as the Cardinal Greenway, Prairie Creek Reservoir and various cultural events.
Dr. Pete Voss has been a member of the medical staff at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital since 1991. He is an obstetrician/gynecologist by training and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Throughout his time at IU Health Dr. Voss served in various physician leadership roles, always bringing a fair and measured voice while advocating for the highest level of quality care for his patients. Dr. Voss earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University and graduated with his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. He resides in Muncie with his wife, Franky, and their three children.
Carla Cox is regional vice president and chief nursing officer for IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. With over 40 years of nursing experience, Cox oversees more than 900 nurses in the East Central Region. When she is not at work advocating for her nursing staff, she enjoys traveling to visit family, especially her grandchildren in Hawaii.
Cox is a graduate of Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville, earned her MBA from Spring Arbor University and is a Certified Executive in Nursing Practice.
Michelle Altobella services as vice president and general counsel for IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and as chief privacy officer for IU Health. She has provided legal leadership at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for 15 years. Altobella is a graduate of University of Kentucky and earned her JD cum laude from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. In her free time, she likes to exercise in the hospital Fitness Center, spend time with her family and watch sporting events.
Jon Vanator joined the leadership team at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in 2017. He has been part of IU Health since 2013 in various leadership positions. Vanator is a graduate of Bethel College and earned his master’s degree at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
Away from work, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
Ann McGuire is the vice president of human resources for IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She has been with the hospital for more 20 years. Originally from Detroit, McGuire graduated from Syracuse University in New York before completing military service with the US Air Force. During her free time, McGuire likes to be outdoors kayaking or walking, or inside reading.
Terry Pence is the vice president of operations for IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Pence graduated from Purdue University with a degree in pharmacy. He then earned his MBA from Anderson University. Pence has been with the hospital for his entire career of more than 30 years, starting off as a pharmacy intern and working his way up to vice president of operations. In his free time, Pence enjoys auto racing, snow skiing and spending time with his wife, Rebecca, and two daughters, Kelsey and Alex.
Before joining IU Health in 2017, Brian Reed served in the Operations Management Development Division within Toyota, developing and maintaining lean and efficient practices. Reed earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. In his free time, Reed enjoys time with his wife and children.
