Patients can expect spacious, fully private inpatient rooms.
Operating rooms are designed to maximize efficiencies, putting the patient and clinical excellence at the forefront of care.
By prioritizing flexible, purposeful spaces, the emergency department will maximize patient flow to create the right care environment for Hoosiers.
Together, we’ve designed a new hospital campus directly tied to our vision to make Indiana one of the healthiest states in the nation. This will be a modern facility that not only houses the cutting-edge care IU Health is known for, but also fosters healing for generations of Hoosiers across the state.
- Dennis Murphy, President & Chief Executive Officer, IU Health
IU Health is consolidating high-acuity adult care services at two aging hospitals, IU Health Methodist and IU Health University, in one location along 16th Street in a wholly new hospital that incorporates 21st century advancements in care and treatment.
We are designing the new hospital to be a preferred destination for receiving care, especially for complex medical cases.
In addition to the new hospital, the campus will consist of the following new buildings:
December 2027
The new hospital, Medical Office Building and the Neuroscience Center each have an attached parking garage with a covered walkway into the facilities to make parking easy and accessible.
The South Support Building will include bicycle and electric charging stations and will be connected to the new downtown hospital via an elevated walkway. The campus is also designed for community connectivity with IndyGo bus stops.
All clinical specialties will move to the new hospital, including the Emergency Department.
All patient rooms are fully private.
The Medical Office Building will house many of our outpatient services. Exact locations for departments and services are in the process of being finalized. Patients will be notified of important appointment location information prior to their appointment.
The 44-arcre campus is designed to minimize carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact to the community.
The area will include native trees and plants, walking and biking paths and thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces that offer patients, families and visitors a place to walk, rest and experience the healing benefits of nature.
Indy Health District — the area surrounding the new academic health center campus — is designed to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce chronic disease and improve health outcomes for our patients and their families, our team members, and the broader community.
